The standard is civil, not soft
SOhS is built for serious public thinking. Users may challenge ideas, question authority, disagree with conclusions, and request corrections. The boundary is dignity: criticize claims, reasoning, systems, and behavior without attacking a person's humanity or safety.

How to participate well
Separate claim from opinion
If something is factual, provide a source. If it is your interpretation, say so. If it is personal experience, mark it clearly.
Disagree with the idea
Challenge reasoning, evidence, assumptions, and consequences. Do not reduce a person or group to an insult, label, or target.
Use evidence honestly
Do not cherry-pick, remove context, invent sources, manipulate statistics, or present rumor as verified fact.
Welcome correction
A correction is not humiliation. If someone shows better evidence, update the claim or explain why the evidence is not enough.
Sourcing expectations
Public claims should be supported by credible sources where possible. Primary sources, official documents, reputable reporting, research papers, direct statements, and clearly attributable evidence are stronger than screenshots, rumors, or anonymous forwarded messages.
Unsourced claims may be rejected, held for review, or treated as opinion instead of fact.
Personal experience
Personal experience is welcome when it is shared as experience, not used as proof for everyone. Speak from your own position and avoid exposing private information about other people.
Moderation approach
SOhS may use automated checks and human review to hold, approve, reject, flag, hide, or remove submissions. Moderation is not a vote on whether a view is popular. It is a judgment about whether the contribution fits the platform purpose and safety rules.
Borderline content may be reviewed for context, pattern of behavior, risk of harm, evidence quality, and whether the same point can be made without abuse.
Corrections and appeals
If you believe SOhS made a moderation or factual mistake, use a correction request or contact SOhS with the page, decision, evidence, and a clear explanation. Abuse, repeated demands, or threats do not improve an appeal.
Consequences
Violations may lead to rejected submissions, hidden content, limited account access, report review, or admin action. Severe threats, exploitation, doxxing, or illegal content may be escalated as needed.
The simplest rule
Make the argument stronger, not the room uglier. If a point requires dehumanization, threats, propaganda, fake certainty, or personal attack to work, it does not belong on SOhS.
